Prof. Lamia Messari-Becker was born in Morocco and came to Germany in 1992 to study. After a language course and preparatory course, she studied civil engineering (2001) and obtained her doctorate at the TU Darmstadt (2006). This was followed in 2004 by postgraduate studies in "Management for Executives" at the TH Karlsruhe (KIT).
Until 2013, Messari-Becker worked in a leading position for an international planning office with branches in Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Oslo, Melbourne and Rome, among others. Since 2013, she has been Professor and Head of the Chair of Building Technology and Building Physics in the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen.
In 2016, Prof. Messari-Becker became the first civil engineer to be appointed to the German Government's Council of Experts on the Environment, where she represented the fields of "Civil Engineering and Sustainable Urban Development" until 2020. She has been advising federal ministries on sustainability in the construction sector since 2017. Since 2020, Prof. Messari-Becker has been a member of the Convention of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture as well as of the Club of Rome International, an association of 100 personalities worldwide who are committed to a sustainable future for humanity.
Prof. Messari-Becker is a mother and volunteers for more women in MINT and in leadership positions. Prof. Messari-Becker supports the initiative "Faces of Democracy - Faces of Peace".
