Karolin Schwarz lives and works as a freelance journalist, trainer and developer of weird and stupid ideas in Berlin. She writes for Motherboard and took over the editorial responsibility for the video series about:blank. In the past she worked as a fact checker at Correctiv.org and as a community tamer at Jäger & Sammler and the Leipziger Volkszeitung.
In February 2016, with the help of Lutz Helm, she founded Hoaxmap.org, on which false reports of refugees and PoC are collected. The project was nominated for the Grimme Online Award, the alternative media prize and the journalist prize “Der lange Atem” and received the democracy prize of the SPD faction in the Saxon state parliament. In the meantime, with the support of the Prototype Fund, she is working on a new project: a database for false reports that are distributed via images and videos.
