I'm a passionate leader who has worked in crisis and war contexts around the world for 20 years. I enjoy speaking about humanity, leadership in challenging times, and women in leadership.
Karina Lehmann is Action Against Hunger Germany’s Director of Programs and Advocacy. She is responsible for the organisation's political communication and engagement, cooperation with institutional donors and stakeholders, and portfolio management and development.
Previously, she has been working in humanitarian settings worldwide. Notably, she served as the International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) Deputy Head of Delegation in Chișinău, Moldova; lead the Sub-Delegation in Mosul, Iraq; served in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza; lead the Protection dialogue in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ituri province, and led the ICRC’s Sub-Delegation in Wau, South Sudan during active hostilities.
Karina also served at ICRC’s Geneva headquarters as Head of Sector for the cooperation and collaboration within the Red Cross Red and Crescent Movement in Eastern and Central Africa, and as Cooperation Delegate in the Philippines and Nigeria. She also worked for the German Red Cross (DRK) in Southeast Asia in close collaboration with the region's National Red Cross Societies. She started her professional career with the Agency for Technical Relief (THW) in Bonn, Germany.
Karina studied Law in Germany; in addition, she holds an LL.M. of the University of Leiden in public international law and a Master’s degree of the University of Lucerne in humanitarian leadership.
Karina's passions are all things humanitarian, ethical leadership, female empowerment, and global justice.
