Personal note:

Stories have always been my way of exploring the world — of diving into other realities, discovering our differences, and celebrating the many beautiful connections that make this planet so diverse. Through film, I aim to reveal how powerful our imagination can be in creating a more sustainable, social, and vibrant future.

Since 2017, I’ve combined my two greatest passions — filmmaking and sustainability — to create films that don’t just explain complex issues, but help audiences feel and understand them on a deeper level. My work spans from social media storytelling to TV productions (ARD, MDR) and hybrid cinema films, always with the goal of transforming awareness into action. At the heart of my work lies a belief that visual storytelling can inspire real change. Whether through constructive journalism, emotional portraits, or visionary narratives, I seek out people and ideas that show tangible solutions for the challenges of our time — and invite others to become part of them.

Currently, I’m directing and producing our global impact film THE STORY OF A NEW WORLD – a docu-fiction feature that combines cinematic storytelling with real-world change. Together with a worldwide campaign in over 50 countries, the project turns passive viewers into active changemakers.

Before becoming a full-time filmmaker, I worked in the video editorial team at Greenpeace, where I learned the power of visual activism. Over the years, my work has been honored with the European Solar Prize, Best Woman Filmmaker Award, and several international festival selections.

Beyond filmmaking, I serve on the board of Zukunftsgestalten e.V., supporting forward-thinking initiatives, and I also work part-time as a feminist photographer, capturing portraits and stories that celebrate female strength and authenticity.

Ultimately, I see my role as a filmmaker as this: To make complexity emotional, to translate solutions into stories — and to remind us all that imagination might just be the most powerful tool we have to change the world.

Bio:

Johanna Jaurich is a writer, director, and (impact) producer of sustainable feature documentaries, TV reports, and documentary short films.

She studied Media Studies with a focus on film sociology, media psychology, and environmental communication at the Bauhaus University Weimar, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2017.

From a young age, she has been committed to sustainability and has made it the focus of her professional work as well. After gaining experience as a video editor at Greenpeace and contributing to various independent film projects, she joined the sustainable film production company fechnerMEDIA GmbH in 2017, where she established a branch office in her adopted hometown of Dresden.

For her TV documentary “My Future Without Coal” (2019), she received several international festival awards, including the European Solar Prize 2020 and the Best Woman Filmmaker Award. The film reached over half a million viewers during prime time on Germany’s national broadcaster ARD.

In addition to TV documentaries and feature films, she passionately tells solution-oriented short film stories about role models and people committed to sustainability and socio-ecological transformation.

As a board member of Zukunftsgestalten e.V., she is also dedicated to connecting changemakers and fostering collaboration among them.
