Jeanette Müller, Dr.

artist and political scientist experienced in transdisciplinary artistic and scientific work, science communication

Mag. Dr. Jeanette Mueller, artist and researcher, studied Political Science, Jewish Studies and Arabic Studies (University of Vienna) and at the University of Applied Arts (Design theory), as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Painting and Graphics). She wrote her dissertation on "Trust and Creativity. The Importance of Trust for Diverse Stakeholders in Innovation Networks" (Peter Lang 2009) and received the "Theodor Körner Award" for Science and Art. Since her doctoral studies (research grant received from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Center for Innovation Systems & Policy) systems science and systems thinking have played an increasing role in her work. In 2008, she became board member of the Society of Organizational Learning Austria, and in 2018 board member of the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science (BCSSS).
Her thesis shows the relevance of trust for heterogeneous groups and networks that generate innovation. Scenographies as a means to support mutual empathy, appreciation, learning from and with each other, play an important role in her PhD research and in her ongoing scientific and artistic work. Her project "lovepangs" (as artist duo "heavy girls lighten", in collaboration with Christoph Schlingensief and Alexander Kluge, Volksbühne Berlin, Schauspielhaus Zurich, 2001) focused on common denominators of individuals (in this case loss pain) to create social solidarity and agency and formed the basis of her theoretical work and dissertation.
Muellers ́ work at the intersections of art and science includes installations, assemblages, collages, scenography, performances, graffiti, photography and texts (see also: MUELLER-DIVJAK, p. 17). She designs transcultural communication spaces for global learning. Artistic interventions and participatory art projects as well as the conception and implementation of transdisciplinary and international projects and workshops are among her core competencies. With the exhibition of her installation “Reflexive Correlations” at the National Art Gallery, Bangkok, 2015, she shared her research and insights concerning mirror neurons and empathy. With the development of the „Future Walkways“, i.e. environmental installations made of all- natural material (leaves, blooms, seeds etc.), in which she takes up the Asian tradition of the Yom Grom/ walking meditation paths, she has been dedicating herself to the exploration of haptic-tactile perception.
