1. Think Big and global. There is no need to focus on just the German market first. Didn't the pandemic show us how everything is connected?
2. Radical optimism. Think positive first, add German critical thinking second.
3. Tell a compelling story - about your product, your company, and yourself.
4. Pay forward. Don't start with asking "What's in it for me?"
5. Fail fast, fail often. "Failing" is considered as learning. Don't be too harsh on yourself and others when things don't work out immediately.
Kati Schmidt is the Director of International Business Operations at Course Hero.
After winning her Green Card in the Diversity Visa Lottery, Kati relocated from Berlin, Germany, to San Francisco, California, in January 2015. As an early former employee of Airbnb, Kati worked on launching and scaling Airbnb’s operations in Europe, starting Airbnb’s public policy efforts globally and launching Airbnb Experiences. She has seen hyper-growth and worked on various entrepreneurial projects within the company that informed operational playbooks.
Kati is passionate about female entrepreneurship, the transatlantic relationship, and gluten-free food. She regularly mentors startups looking to expand their business to the USA at the German government’s tech accelerator and volunteers as a San Francisco Director of Changemaker Chats. In 2015, she was selected as a Young Leader of the renowned Atlantikbrücke organization. Kati holds an MBA in Media Management from Hamburg Media School.

Wenn man Kati googelt, findet man unfassbar viele Dinge. Sie ist Gründerin einer Dating Plattform, Mentorin im German Accelerator in San Francisco mit verschiedenen Board Seats, hat einen Auswanderer Blog, einen Podcast, ist eine der ersten 100 Airbnb Mitarbeiter global und nach verschiedenen anderen Stationen im Valley jetzt bei Course Hero. Kati hat den amerikanischen Traum schon so richtig gelebt.
