Daphne Büllesbach

Daphne Büllesbach is Managing Director of the Berlin based Humboldt-Viadrina Governance Platform that works at the intersection of policy research and offering a platform for participative governance and progressive politics. Having worked almost 10 years in building up European Alternatives, European wide organisation and network which she was heading as Executive Director until end of 2019, she has extensive knowledge of the European civil society and social movements scene.

In 2012 she co-founded the German branch of European Alternatives in Berlin and started the Berlin office of the transnational organisation. Daphne was co-curator of several editions of the art biannual Transeuropa Festival (Belgrade 2015, Madrid 2017, Palermo 2019) bringing together activists and artists by bridging practices and engaged formats.

After years of gathering and connecting progressive voices around Europe, she is experienced in the difficulties of cross-border political work and holds a particular interest for solutions to bridging the local to the transnational.

She holds degrees in European Studies and Social and Political Science from King’s College London, Sciences-Po Paris and Cambridge University. In recent years, she has spoken on political activism, social movements 2.0., participation and mobilisation and solidarity in times of crisis, always with a focus on Europe.
