In dieser Session schlüpfen wir in verschiedene Rollen und erleben Websites so wie sie Menschen mit Behinderung erleben könnten. Dabei laufen wir als Keyboardnutzerin in Sackgassen, sehen uns verwirrenden Formularen gegenüber, und lernen die Basics der Screenreadernutzung.
Die Session ist ein Impuls, sich mit der Nutzersicht auf Barrierefreiheit auseinanderzusetzen und bietet praktische Vorgehensweisen fürs manuelle Testen an. Sie ist kein Ersatz für Nutzertests mit echten Nutzer*innen mit Behinderung.

Accessibility - ensuring a product is usable for all - is a challenging topic for development teams. A lot of requirements have to be taken into account when building accessible software. A big problem is ensuring that things stay accessible: Testing accessibility is largely a manual process. This clashes with the fast release cycles of modern software. How can we keep our pace while ensuring that the product stays accessible?
In this talk, I will give you the tools you need to better secure your product in terms of accessibility. We will start by learning about automated tools, their possibilities and limitations. After that, we will look at what we can do beyond the tools, namely writing our own tests for accessibility. Finally, we will look at how AI can support us in this regard.

Since the end of June 2025, many products have to be accessible. Larger products often use component systems whose smallest building blocks are web components. And these, of course, must also be accessible.
In this talk, you'll learn which technical pitfalls to look out for. We'll explore the oddities of the Shadow DOM and look at component semantics. A complete implementation also includes tests—and there are a few things to consider here, too. Finally, we'll look at how we can document the accessible use of our components.
