My name is Birgit Peters. I’m originally from Linz, Austria, and for more than 20 years I’ve been working around the world in natural history filmmaking — as a filmmaker, producer, and wildlife presenter in front of the camera.
I’ve filmed in rainforests, worked in the savannah, lived aboard research vessels, and experienced countless moments where plans suddenly fell apart and decisions still had to be made.
In Austria, I worked on primetime formats such as UNIVERSUM and TERRA MATER, and internationally with broadcasters including the BBC, arte, ARD, ZDF, and a wide range of international co-productions.
Today, I bring these experiences to the stage as well.
In my talks and “Wild Lessons,” I speak about change, adaptability, and how we stay capable of acting even in uncertain times. I talk about making decisions under pressure, having the courage to embrace change, and why unexpected situations often open the door to entirely new opportunities — not from a theoretical perspective, but through real experiences from the wilderness and from personal turning points in my own life.
Birgit Peters is an Austrian wildlife filmmaker, producer, and presenter with more than 20 years of international experience in wildlife and documentary filmmaking.
She tells stories from the wild — both as a filmmaker in the field and in leading creative roles within international natural history productions. Her career has taken her from demanding shoots in some of the world’s most remote regions to senior editorial positions in German-speaking television.
She has worked as a producer and director on international wildlife documentaries, served as Deputy Editorial Head of the acclaimed ORF series UNIVERSUM, and later became Executive Producer at Terra Mater Studios, where she oversaw numerous award-winning productions.
Alongside her work behind the camera, she also built a strong on-screen presence. In 2006, she first appeared as a presenter for ARD and NDR productions and has since worked both in front of and behind the camera for ORF, ServusTV, and international co-productions with broadcasters including BBC, National Geographic, arte, ARD, and ZDF.
From 2020 to 2024, she was the face of the primetime series Terra Mater, guiding audiences through ambitious natural history productions on land, underwater, and in some of the world’s most fascinating and challenging environments.
Her work combines compelling storytelling with genuine field experience. As a certified diver with more than 500 dives, an experienced horsewoman, and a former competitive athlete, she is equally at home in demanding environments — bringing the same authenticity to the stage that defines her work in the field.
In her talks, Birgit Peters connects her experiences from the wilderness with personal turning points and explores how we navigate uncertainty, change, and unexpected situations. Her focus is on adaptability, decision-making under pressure, and the courage to embrace new paths.
