Minusch Afonso

Minusch Afonso lives in Munich and has been working as a freelance journalist, moderator and podcast host since 2011. She stands for a form of journalism that communicates complex social issues in a way that is accessible, empathetic and sharp. She is known, among other roles, as a host of News-WG (Bayerischer Rundfunk) and as the presenter of the YouTube format “Dumme Frage, aber…” (BR / ARD alpha), where she explores social questions in a smart, approachable and dialogue-driven way. She is also a host of the feminist podcast "Lila Podcast".

A key focus of her work lies in connecting personal experience with broader social relevance. Minusch is a breast cancer survivor and has been cancer-free for several years. This experience has profoundly shaped her perspective and commitment. She actively advocates for greater visibility, openness and empowerment for those affected, breaking taboos and giving a voice to people living with cancer — both in media formats and on stage. As an ambassador for DKMS / Look Good Feel Better, she is particularly committed to raising awareness, prevention and fostering a more open public conversation around illness.

Alongside her journalistic work, Minusch is a sought-after stage moderator and speaker. She hosts events on topics such as media literacy, political education, feminism, social cohesion and digital discourse. She is known for her clear presence, sensitivity and ability to guide even difficult conversations with warmth, confidence and precision.

Previously, she has worked with SWR, SRF Kultur, DASDING and Deutschlandfunk. Her first reportage was awarded by DER SPIEGEL in 2012.
