Francesca Recchia is an independent researcher and writer. Her work is grounded in an interdisciplinary approach that combines Urban, Visual and Cultural Studies.
She has worked and taught in different parts of the world, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine.
Her main research interest is the geopolitical dimension of cultural processes and in the past few years has focused on creative practices in countries in conflict. Francesca was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College of London, and is now a Research Associate at the Centre of South Asian Studies at SOAS, London and a Visiting Lecturer at Università Bocconi in Milan. She was the director of the 4th Afghanistan Contemporary Art Prize and is now organizing the first Kabul Literature festival and working on a book titled The Little Book of Kabul. Francesca has a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Oriental Institute in Naples and a Master’s degree in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
