Daniela Busse is Director (Global Innovation Network) at Citi Ventures, the ventures + innovation arm of Citigroup, in Palo Alto, California. Prior to that she held roles as director-level Design Futurist at Samsung Research America (SRA), UX Director at SAP Labs (Palo Alto), Chief UX Architect in Hasso Plattner’s innovation team in SAP's Office of the CEO (Henning Kagermann), and as Design Researcher at Microsoft's Office Design Group (Redmond, WA). She supported the Dundee University Masters on Design Ethnography program as a long-time member of their Industry Steering committee, as well as holding a 3-year post on their Board of External Examiners. She received her Ph.D. on “Human Error in Medicine” from Glasgow University’s Department of Computing Science, and her summa cum laude degrees in both Computing Science and Psychology also from Glasgow University (Scotland, UK), where she won the Sun Microsystems Price for Best Dissertation for her work on web accessibility and students with special needs. She was awarded the prestigious MacRobertson scholarship for exchanges with international centers of excellence (visiting researcher at SCHIL/Swinburne, Australia). Over the years, she won multiple awards for her research and design work (including winning the SAP Sustainability design competition with a submission on Eco-labels, and most recently in 2012, the Samsung Outstanding Inventors award). She holds multiple patents and publications, and is a frequently invited speaker on topics ranging from Innovation and Entrepreneurship, ‘Women leading Innovation’, to ‘Collaboration Technologies’, ‘Agile UX’, ‘HCI Activism and Human Rights, ‘UX Analytics’, 'Mobile UX', ‘the Intersection of Business and Design’, and as invited panelist on the Idean thought-leader panel on ‘Design Thinking’. She supports multiple conference committees, e.g. as PC member for CHI’14, GHC’14, ICT4S’14, and is on the organizing committee for TVX’14, and TEI’15. She is a founding member, and currently holds the post as Industry Lead, of the ACM SIGCHI community for Sustainability. And she is a long-time supporter of women in the tech industry.
