When fashion is designed and created digitally using Digital Twins, a lot of valuable data is generated. When this data is kept in a silo, it's lost to the business. In this talk, Anita will explain the importance of breaking up data silos and enabling other parts of a business to work with this data as well. She'll show numerous use cases, where this data can be put to good use for sustainability, sales & marketing, and how this kind of data can enable new use cases in future shopping experiences.

We're in the middle of the energy transition: from reliable, always-on and dirty fossil fuel to volatile but clean renewable energy. This means that requirements for when, where and how much energy to consume will change, in IT as anywhere else. In this talk, you'll learn what cloud providers' and software architecture's roles in this are, how the future energy market will affect IT systems and what software architects can do today to make sure their products aren't just ready for, but can even profit from this development.

„Reduce, Reuse, Recycle“ – the Circular Economy is gaining traction for physical products, in many cases thanks to digital innovations. What’s still under-utilized, however, is the potential for reducing waste and emissions by applying circular principles to IT itself. In this talk, we will explore what „Design out waste“ or „Keep products and materials in use“ translate to for digital products. You will learn what the environmental footprint of tech is and why it’s still such a secret. And finally, Anita will present you with some tangible, real-world examples from her work with clients that will leave you inspired to start your own Sustainable Tech journey.

Anita works as a Green Coding consultant with IT companies of different sizes. Some of them come seeking help because they have ESG based KPIs and want to reduce their IT’s emissions, others don’t even know yet that this is something they might want to do. Some run all of their workloads in the cloud, others have their own on prem data center. One thing they all seem to have in common, though: most of their devs are “sceptical” towards sustainability in IT. Anita will share insights and stories from her work: How to get clients to start Green Coding initiatives even if they’re not yet interested. Where to start looking for savings potential and how to go about estimating it. What to do if a measuring tool shows numbers that seem too small to be true. And how to make sure people not only cooperate for as long as you’re there but also keep on going after you’ve left - to guarantee this change will truely be “sustainable”.

Talk about how to go about Green Software in practice, with some theory about what's important, what hinders teams and prevents companies from starting at all, ending with a real-world example about measuring and how about 50% of a team's emissions were saved.

The topic of sustainable software development is slowly but surely finding its way into IT and, alongside generative AI, will be one of the most important topics in the coming years. Im Vortrag begründet Anita, warum jetzt ein guter Zeitpunkt ist, sich mit dem Thema Nachhaltige Software-Entwicklung zu beschäftigen, welche regulatorischen Anforderungen auf Firmen zukommen und welche Rolle die IT beim Einsparen von CO2 spielen kann. Sie zeigt Wege auf, bei den eigenen Kolleg:innen Interesse und Lust auf das Thema zu wecken und einen sanften Einstieg zu finden. Unternehmen, die eine Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie für ihre IT haben, sind heute noch eine Seltenheit. Dabei sind die Zeiten vorbei, in denen Nachhaltigkeit nur etwas für Menschen mit einer Affinität zu Klebstoff oder Tomatensoße war. Anita Schüttler gibt in diesem Talk eine Einordnung, wohin die Reise in Sachen Sustainable IT geht, gesteuert durch Gesetze der EU, des Markts und der Physik. Sie zeigt die Eckpfeiler einer IT-Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie auf und hat eine reiche Sammlung von Maßnahmen der nachhaltigen Softwareentwicklung für verschiedene Gewerke im Gepäck, ergänzt durch Quellen zum Selbststudium und Tools, die bei der Berechnung der Emissionen von Software unterstützen können. Olaf Sebelin hat eine große Affinität zu guter Architektur und wird deshalb erzählen, welche dieser Maßnahmen aus dem Bereich Architektur wir bei neuland bereits selbst ausprobiert haben und wie das so gelaufen ist.
